The Obamas Are Set To Release ‘We The People’ Netflix Series

Former President and First Lady Barack and Michelle Obama are set to release an animated civics lesson on Netflix next month called We the People. The series, according to The Hollywood Reporter, is a joint effort with Doc McStuffins creator Chris Nee. The series is slated to be released on the streaming platform July 4 and features original songs and performances by Janelle Monae, H.E.R., Andra Day, poet Amanda Gorman, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Cordae, Bebe Rexha, and more.

“The show combines music and animation to educate a new generation of young Americans about the power of the people,” a description of the show says.

The Obamas are executive producing the series alongside Nee in addition to Tonia Davis and Priya Swaminathan of Higher Ground and Black-ish creator Kenya Barris

According to the outlet, We the People will be a series of animated music videos that give American civics lessons. There’ll be 10, three-minute episodes in the series and is the second project the Obamas are working on with Nee. Later this year, the team will also be releasing an animated preschool series entitled Ada Twist, Scientist, based on the best-selling book series by Andrea Beaty and illustrator David Roberts.
