Germanfest set for September 29th in Gluckstadt

Germanfest

Gluckstadt GermanFest 2019

The 33rd annual Gluckstadt GermanFest is scheduled for Sunday, September 29, 2019, from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Take Exit 112 from Interstate 55 North, and go west for three quarters of a mile. Admission and parking are free.

The Gluckstadt community was founded in 1905 by families of German descent. Many of their descendants still live in the area and play an active role in putting on this festival.

The family-oriented festival is best known for its delicious German food and authentic German Folk music provided by the band, Polkameisters from Tulsa, Oklahoma. This band is definitely a crowd pleaser. People who have never experienced a German Polka will love the songs, and no GermanFest is complete without the famous “chicken dance,” a favorite of young and old which must be seen and heard to be fully appreciated. Sizzling shish kabobs, bratwurst slathered in sauerkraut, and authentic German desserts, pies, and other home-made favorites will be served. The menu also includes giant fresh oven-baked pretzels, hot dogs, and rippchenkraut (pork chops smothered in homemade sauerkraut). Dark and light beer will be on tap, along with Pepsi products and bottled water. Again this year, there will be a German Wine Tasting Booth.

Advance meal tickets are $6 and are available from parishioners of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Ticket information is also available by calling the parish office at 601-856-2054. Meals the day of the festival will be $7.

Children will be entertained for hours with a wide assortment of games and activities just for them. A stroll about the grounds to enjoy the sights, sounds, and smells is an experience to be savored.
