Gene Hackman died on February 18th, a full week after his wife Betsy Arakawa died, according to New Mexico's Chief Medical Examiner.
Officials held a press conference Friday afternoon and revealed more details about the circumstances of the couple's deaths. They say the 95-year-old actor died from heart complications and Alzheimer's disease. His body was found collapsed in the home's mudroom. They say Arakawa likely died on February 11th from something called Hantavirus, which is described as a rare type of virus that's spread by rodents.
Investigators believe that Hackman continued to live in the house with the body of his dead wife for a week. They believe he was likely confused as a result of his advanced Alzheimer's and may not have even realized she had died. They were both found at the home on February 26th. (TMZ)
