Not necessarily. A new study has found that trying too hard to be happy might actually make you miserable. Researchers from the University of Toronto Scarborough and the University of Sydney found that people who focus too much on being happy end up with less self-control and more temptation to make bad choices.
“The pursuit of happiness is a bit like a snowball effect," says Professor Sam Maglio of the University of Toronto Scarborough. "You decide to try making yourself feel happier, but then that effort depletes your ability to do the kinds of things that make you happier.”
It’s like the more you force yourself to be happy, the more any real happiness slips away. Instead, researchers say you should appreciate what you already have and let happiness come naturally.
